Two Lives Spared

karla | May 21, 2009

I wanted to share a blessing from todays work.

I had to get up at 5:00 to get the girls up and around and get us to Celina at 9:00 to open the Pregnancy Center. I have to be honest, I really did not want to get out of bed and come. It was a hard trip, we were all very tired. But we did our devotions together, and that was good. But God worked today in ways that were exciting because I could actually see him work.

I had a phone call of young girl, 24, from Celina who needed to come in to EPS and talk about ?things.? When she got here we found out she had an abortion appointment tomorrow. So we talked and discussed options and support and she is not going for that abortion appointment tomorrow.

Another phone call came in and it was a mother of a 17 year old who just recently told her she was pregnant and she is 27 weeks. They went to the abortion clinic last week, but she was too far along, so they needed to go to a different clinic (praise the LORD), but she also called here, even though she had an appointment for today at the other clinic. We spoke and mom cried and cried, but she said she was not taking her daughter for the abortion, she did not really believe in abortion, even though the daughter wanted the abortion. They are coming in to talk on Thursday. Another life saved from abortion.

Watching God work is the reason we are here. You know without us being here today, those babies may not be here tomorrow… God really makes our jobs relevant to what He has called us to.

Daily Standard: EPS Will Stay in Celina

doug | May 19, 2009

The news is out. Elizabeth Pregnancy Services is staying in Celina.

Along with that, contrary to the Celina Daily Standard newspaper, the pregnancy center will be staying at its current location, 123 E. Fayette St., for the foreseeable future.

EPS is without a director currently but there’s a lot of work right now with volunteers and a busy search on for someone to lead the PC in this exciting time of change.

Saturday in the Park

doug | May 9, 2009

Saturday in the ParkHannah spent the afternoon on Saturday with her baby’s adoptive parents.

They talked about baby names. Hannah is having a boy.

Some of their considerations: Samuel, Andrew, Kaiden, Gavril, Gavin, Elijah. There’s a lot of time to decide on a name. The baby is due the first week of September.

The couple, Jon and Anna, took Hannah out to the park where they allowed Jon and Anna’s 5-year-old to play at the playground and allowed them time to talk.

Hannah was excited about the meeting, both before and after.

“They’re really great. I like them a lot!”

Lysa Goes Home

doug | May 9, 2009

After experiencing the death of her son Keith, born prematurely on April 18th, Lysa has gone home to her family.

She arrived on April 4 and it was an absolute joy to have her; she brightened every conversation and never seemed to be grumpy or ill-tempered. Her attitude was positive even about coming to Harbor House. She wanted to be here and and wanted to get help with her situation.

Please keep Lysa and her family in your prayers. There is also a memorial fund set up in her son’s name for anyone wishing to contribute (Paypal alternate site).

Tasha comes back to Ohio

doug | May 8, 2009

Unlike Chrissy Hynde and the Pretenders, Natasha returned to Ohio and her city was here. Along with the temporary home and family she had for most of last year.

What had changed was that Tasha was no longer pregnant nor showing signs that she had been. She has been busy back home taking ballet lessons and showed off some of her moves.

She doesn’t have a boyfriend, either, which was one of the stipulations for living back around the crowd who were her friends at the time she got pregnant.

She’s not even hanging around them. Instead of going back into a brick-and-mortar school and seeing hundreds of kids her own age during the school year, Tasha is learning online via a virtual charter school.

She also become very integrated into her church. She has a mentor who asks her hard questions on a regular basis.

Are her parents being too cautious?

“If my daughter got pregnant at 15, and had to go through all that Tasha had to go through, I’m sure I’d be maybe a bit more restrictive,” said Karla Eberle, housemother at Harbor House.

Does Natasha miss her previous before-pregnancy lifestyle?

“I miss being able to be by myself, I miss hanging out with out friends, but that doesnt’ mean it was good for me. Just because I did those things–it wasn’t right but that doesnt’ mean i dont miss it.”

For now, until the trust returns–which will happen eventually as long as Tasha obeys her parents and other authorities–she will have to live with restrictions. But life has restrictions and God wants us to learn that His restrictions are designed ultimately to benefit us. That’s one lesson that has stuck with Tasha after experiencing teen pregnancy.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 ESV
